How often should I test my pool or spa water?
For home pools, test at least 2 to 3 times per week during swimming season and once a week in the off-season. Hot tubs and spas should be tested before every use due to their smaller water volume and faster chemical fluctuation.
Can I use these strips in a hot tub or spa?
Yes. All PCM test strips work in both pools and spas. Keep in mind that hot tubs require more frequent testing due to higher temperatures and smaller water volumes. Ideal parameter ranges may also differ slightly, so consult your spa manufacturer guidelines for recommended levels.
My strip color does not match anything on the chart. What should I do?
First, make sure you are reading in natural daylight, as artificial or colored lighting can distort results. If the issue persists, your water chemistry may be significantly out of range. Test again with a fresh strip. If results remain unusual, consider having your water professionally analyzed at a local pool store.
How should I store my test strips?
Store strips in their original container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity. Replace the cap tightly immediately after each use. Avoid storing in pool bags, bathrooms, or near the pool edge. Do not refrigerate.
Do test strips expire?
Once you open the bottle, PCM test strips can be used for up to a year, as long as they are stored correctly. Even within that window, strips degrade if exposed to humidity or heat, so keep the cap sealed tightly and discard any strips that appear discolored or clumped before use.
